William Staub: Christian, Soldier, and Philosopher!

Welcome to my world! I am glad you decided to join the rest of us in discovering more about the worlds and characters William Staub has created and continues to create. First of all, I write under my formal name of William Staub, but only my mother ever called me William (and that only when I was in trouble). My friends all call me Dusty (it’s a long story, and maybe for one of my blog posts, someday).

At the time of the creation of this website, I have created two series and I have published just 3 Kincaid books and 2 Farnsworth books. I have outlines for ten or more books of each series and more ideas for some stand-alone books. The cover designs, descriptions and links for all my work are below. After all that, I have answered some FAQs so you might begin to feel like you know me.

What kind of books are the Kincaid series?

The Orson Kincaid series is a series of action/adventure books. In the 1940s thru 1960s, similar books were called men’s books. But they included a lot of swearing, blood and gore, and sex/nudity. Today, a lot of readers are turned off by such elements, calling them unnecessary and distracting. I don’t believe those elements are necessary for a good story in that genre. So I started Kincaid’s series to prove my theory.

What group of readers will understand and appreciate the KINCAID series?

William Staub is an avid storyteller and self-published author, having already published 5 books in 2 different series, and working on more all the time. I retired from service in the US Army and am now based in Florida, where I live with my wife of 54 years and our service dog (emeritus status), Ranger. We have 4 grown children, 7 grandchildren, and 4 great grands. Read more about the author here.

What is the author’s Christian experience to write books about Christian values and beliefs?

I was raised by 2 loving parents who were active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For years, the public misconception about our church is that we are not Christians. That is one of the reasons we started referring to our church by its formal name. I did not go on a fulltime mission for our church, but I attended and graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU). My wife and I raised our 4 children in the church and taught them to be the best adults we could do. Now, in our golden years, we are still fully engaged with our church and believe Jesus Christ is our Savior, God, and King.

What is the author’s military experience?

After graduating from high school in 1969, I enlisted in the US Army and served a 6 year tour of duty after which I went to college. While in college, I had an empty feeling inside like something was missing. Believing that loss was the lack of a military system in my life. So I joined the Utah National Guard and served in the 19th Special Forces Group (Abn). After one year, I felt again that there was something missing. So I joined the Army ROTC classes, went to Ranger School for my summer camp (and it was no picnic), and when I graduated college, I returned to active duty Army and served for another 14 years, making a total of 20 years. Then I retired. However, I remained in uniform as I took a job as the Senior Army Instructor (SAI) at a high school in Baltimore City. I taught there for 13 years, then took a job as a contractor, to develop and teach a new class, designed to save lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. After two years as a contractor, I converted to working in the same job as a developer, instructor, mentor, and role player for the same course, the Army Source Operations Course (ASOC). I remained in that job for another 12 years, then retired from civil service and stopped my military experience. All totalled, I served the US Army for 52 years.

Does the Kincaid series have a lot of blood/gore, vulgar language, and sex?

I intentionally wrote the Kincaid series without all the blood/gore, vulgar language, and sex/nudity that other books in the same genre include in their stories. I wanted to demonstrate how readers of fiction can enjoy good stories with engaging characters without the fortuitous extras which turn off many readers.

Are any of the Kincaid books available in audio format?

All of my books are available in audiobook format. I do all of the voiceover and technical work on the audiobooks and produce them through Findaway Voices. They are available on Amazon Audible, and most major online audiobook distributors.

Is the FARNSWORTH series written for children?

The Farnsworth Chronicles series is written for children from 8-12 years of age.

What group of readers will understand and appreciate the FARNSWORTH series?

I wrote this series with a protagonist being a young boy who was born with spina bifida, focusing on how he works with his disability to enjoy life, in a modern day fantasy genre.

Are any of the FARNSWORTH books available in audio format?

I have also produced all my Farnsworth books in audiobook format. They are available on Amazon Audible, and most major online audiobook distributors.
